The only "headless body" Arizonans need fear is that of their Governor. That woman, so reminiscent of Sarah Palin, is an idiot. She couldn't even read from prepared notes to tell viewers of that televised state debate the things she had supposedly accomplished! Her lack of preparation shows poor organizational ability at best, and a smug arrogance and cockiness toward the election and the voters of her state at worst. Her inability to think on her feet shows her to be not very bright or quick. Too bad this clip didn't show the "I have....(long pregnant pause) did all I can for Arizona." But her refusal to directly answer questions posed by the press afterward - the disdain she obviously has for the press and her flippant dismissal of them without answering the question posed - show that this woman is not worthy of the public trust and is wholly unsuited for public office of any kind, be it local, state, or national. This is a shocking revelation of her incompetence and inadequacy, and I certainly hope Arizona voters will respond accordingly.

One of the amusing vagaries of our political process is that, occasionally, a dead man can run for office ... and win. Prime example: John Ashcroft versus Mel Carnahan, where Ashcroft earned the singular distinction of losing a race to a man who had been pushing up daisies for weeks.

You can't help but feel a tiny bit of sympathy for Ashcroft. That's got to be a spirit-breaker.

Politicians have been lying and exaggerating since the dawn of time. Regrettably, that has come to be an accepted fact. But the latest disturbing trend is for outside-the-campaign groups like the Swift Boat Liars, the various right wing groups opposed to the Obama health care plan, and now anti-tax groups to crawl out of the woodwork in election season and pollute the airwaves with the noxious stench of wild distortion, hyperbole, and blatant lying. The political action committees and shadowy groups are always funded by some very wealthy backers who have only their own interests, and not the common good, in mind. Public beware: if it sounds insane, it probably is, and there is undoubtedly an ulterior motive behind its presentation.
